Come and spend a school year in the beautiful Irish countryside and enjoy the hospitality and warmth of the local people. New friends and special memories are waiting for you. Experience and benefit from day to day life in a typical Irish secondary school. Our program is family based and we believe each student should be immersed into both their host family and school life with the utmost care and attention. Places for international students are limited in order to ensure a truly authentic taste of Irish culture and life. ELME guarantees continuous support and assistance for the full duration of the students stay.
Location
Students will be placed in the immediate locality of Virginia, Co. Cavan. We have established a network of schools locally with whom we have a great and direct relationship. This area is one of Ireland’s many charms , tucked away in the beautiful lakelands and green hills of County Cavan.
Host Families
Particular attention is given to selecting all our host families. All host families are security/ police vetted and are known personally to our organization. We place immense emphasis on students feeling welcomed and cared for. Our families are committed to creating a “home from home” for the student. Families are encouraged to incorporate the student into their daily lives with outdoor activities, board games, baking, cooking, family occasions, trips, outings or whatever they are used to doing as a family.
We do not place 2 students of the same nationality within any host family or we do not place students in a host family that are hosting a student from another agency.
School Life
The student will attend school from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm approx. Students have two breaks – the first for approximately 20 mins at around 11am, and the second break lasts approximately 40 mins at around 1pm. Classes generally last 60 mins, with 6 subjects per day. The Irish curriculum follows and
adheres to the general EU framework for secondary education.
